To conduct spray operations or operate a drone that weighs over 25kg, your organisation must hold an Unmanned Aircraft Operators Certificate. This involves developing an exposition that details your standard operating procedures and how you manage risk. The exposition must be approved by the CAA before you can fly spray drone operations.  

 

The remote pilot must also hold a Part 102 certification and agricultural and pilot chemical ratings.  Experience, proficiency and competence are crucial for successful spray operations. Spray drone technology is revolutionising building and infrastructure maintenance. With innovations like longer flight duration, larger tank capacity, and the option of tethered or non-tethered systems, drones are quickly becoming the go-to choice for our building wash operators.

 

The ability to choose between tethered and non-tethered drones allows for operations to be customised to specific job needs. Tethered drones, with their continuous water supply, are ideal for cleaning building facades, while non-tethered drones offer greater maneuverability for roof cleaning, making it easier to access hard-to-reach areas without the limitations of a tether.

​To legally operate spray drones for the purpose of washing buildings and infrastructure in New Zealand you must hold an Aerial Asset Management rating. The CAA approved Flight Test NZ RPAS Aerial Asset Management rating is in place for training and certifying pilots to operate with the sole purpose of applying product to buildings and structures using a tethered or non-tethered UAV platform. Common products such as "Wet and Forget" or "30 Seconds" or similar are considered to be a domestic pesticide and therefore defined as agrichemicals by both the EPA and CAA. Holding a current Aerial Asset Management rating allows you to apply these products using a spray drone. DroneMate is currently the only provider of this training and certification process. Our highly experienced and qualified AAM Instructor will guide you through all aspects of the rating and clients' ability to also utilise our structure significantly reduces the cost and time it takes to get their company fully operational.
